What to do with empty and dilapidated buildings that bear the legacy of different eras and still retain traces of the energy, labor, and materials invested in them? At first glance, they often appear lifeless, yet they are full of potential. How can we restore their function, value, and meaning without losing their cultural significance? The Rethink Architecture autumn lecture will focus on the conversion and modification of buildings of various types, uses, and ages. It will show how industrial halls are being turned into cultural spaces or housing, and how interwar and postwar architecture is being saved abroad. The event will also present smaller buildings, such as former boiler houses, transformer stations, and heat exchangers in housing estates.
The event is organized by the Rethink Architecture Institute in cooperation with the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning under the auspices of the Czech Green Building Council and the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA). The event is part of the ČKA's lifelong learning program for architects and is worth 0.5 points. The event is co-financed by the City of Prague and is part of the LIFE ClimArchiBase project, which is co-financed by the EU and the Ministry of the Environment.
